Gilbert House Children’s Museum is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing hands-on, play-based learning experiences that spark curiosity and creativity. Nestled in downtown Salem’s Riverfront Park, our museum has been inspiring young minds since 1989.
Named after Salem native A.C. Gilbert—an inventor, Olympic gold medalist, entrepreneur, and advocate for learning through play—the museum celebrates his legacy through interactive exhibits and innovative programming. Gilbert’s most famous invention, the Erector Set, serves as the inspiration behind our 20,000-square-foot Outdoor Discovery Area, home to a giant, climbable Erector Set and other engaging structures.
With 20 hands-on exhibits, a dynamic Outdoor Discovery Area, engaging camps, field trips, and a variety of educational programs in science, art, and humanities, we provide a space where children can explore, create, and discover in a fun and enriching environment.
Housed within five historic buildings—Rockenfield House, Gilbert House, Parrish House, Little Gem, and Wilson-Durbin House—the museum is a vibrant hub of learning, play, and community connection.
Join us in fostering curiosity and creativity for the next generation!
