See The Walking Beast on August 9

What can you expect at the Discovery Village on Saturday, August 9?

For one thing, you can get an up close and personal look at this machine:

The Walking Beast is a 14,250 pound mechanical walker built by Salem-based Moltensteelman Studio. It will be at the Salem Maker Celebration on Saturday, August 9 from 10am to 5pm. Scheduled walks will be happening at 11:30am, 1:30pm and 3:30pm. If you’d like more information on the event, or if you’re a maker that would like to sign up, head over to acgilbert.org/maker!

What’s the Difference?

With a Summer of Fun membership, you and your family can visit the museum as much as you’d like from the first day of Summer until Labor Day. You’ll also be able to stop by during our Members Only Mornings each Tuesday from 8-10am. Lastly, you and your family will enjoy reduced admission to our first-ever Salem Maker Celebration on August 9. The Summer of Fun membership is just $35 for up to 2 parents and 5 children. No add-ons are available.

Unlike full memberships, Summer of Fun memberships cannot be used for:

  • Reciprocal admission to other museums
  • Discounts on parties, camps, classes, or gift shop purchases

Free Community Day 6/21 Thanks to PGE

Update: Thanks to everyone that stopped by for the free Community Day! We will have another Community Day on Veteran’s Day: Tuesday, November 11.

This Saturday, we’re opening our doors to everyone free of charge! This will be the second community day of the year, thanks to Portland General Electric. They’re giving back to the community to celebrate 125 years of powering Oregon.

This community day is the perfect opportunity to introduce friends to the Discovery Village, or check out what’s new if you haven’t stopped by in a while. See you then!
